James Karim Fortune: Commissioner,  Eastern Region 

 James Karim Fortune is Public Information Officer (PIO), Right to Access Information Commission-Eastern Region, Sierra Leone. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the prestigious Fourah Bay College-USL, Freetown. He joined the Commission in 2019, first as a volunteer and on January 3, 2022, he became permanent staff.

Before this time, James had amassed well over 10 years of working experience with a few other organizations and institutions. In 2018, James served as Public Relations Coordinator at Dignity Now, Kenema. Through his inspiring leadership and commitment, the public relations department took a few steps upward and achieved many goals. In 2017, he worked as a Language analyst at Competency Development Services (CDS), Freetown. While at CDS, he directed the language and communications department.  He carried out major duties such as translating documents into both English and French, drafting an MOU to the Guinean Embassy for negotiation of terms and policies for hosting Guinean students, and structuring and updating the course curriculum for the language studies program to fit modern learning standards. He lectured English and French languages to both foreign and local students in Freetown. He conducted interviews for new staff and organized all work-related activities like workshops. In the years spanning from 2010-2013, James offered teaching services in two different schools and was recognized as the best performing staff throughout his tenure in both institutions. In 2012, he worked as an interpreter for a foreign agricultural project from Cote D’Ivoire, in Dama, Eastern Sierra Leone.

James has professional experience in fostering positive relationships between media, and coordinating partnerships at all levels including governmental and non-governmental organizations, and community-based groups. He has strong communication skills in English, French, and a Few Sierra Leonean languages, and confident presentation abilities to deliver promotional campaigns, media addresses, and reports to executive management. He has a profound understanding of the importance of good publicity, reputation management, and timely response to Public Relations inquiries in the development and success of an organization. He has expert writing abilities with thorough attention to detail, proper formatting and citation, and concise delivery of interesting facts. James is committed to providing an organization with positive interactions with the media and the public to maintain its reputation, strengthen consumer loyalty, and establish credibility.

He has high analytical, design, and problem-solving skills with experience in effectively planning and coordinating events, activities, and programs and accomplishing tasks unsupervised. He has experience in generating lessons learned and best practices from project implementation and dissemination through qualitative reporting.

He is also experienced in the preparation of strategic communications and operational plans to achieve program objectives.

His educational background is French and Linguistics and has excellent computing and desktop publishing skills.

John Kalokoh: PIO (Northern Region)

John Kalokoh was born in Ferry ,Gbonkolenken chiefdom, Tonkolili District, NorthEast Region of Republic of Sierra Leone.

Attended the Seventh Days Adventist`s Primary School Ferry (S.D.A) and Yoni Bana Secondary School Yoni Bana(YSS)where I attained my WASSCE requirement in 2005, I proceeded my tertiary education at the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology Makeni Campus, where I attained Bachelor in Education degree(B.ED) in Linguistics/Literature in 2017.

I came as a volunteer at the Right to Access Information Commission since 2019 and I had been worked in different capacities  in the Northern region Office Makeni, representing the commission on Radio talk show ,meetings and other assigned duties by the commissioner, till January 2022 I became permanent staff as Public Information Officer at the Northern Region.

I worked for the Ministry of Education on schools survey as Enumerator officer in 2019,I was charged with the responsibility to take details about the schools and pupils with (GPS) operation.

Served as NaCSA volunteer in 2020 with responsibility to do CASH TRANSFER to beneficiaries within Makeni Municipality and social safety net project(SSN), with responsibility to do targeting in the beneficiaries communities in the North-East Region.

I also worked for ministry of Health and sanitation under COVID 19 as public Relation officer in Tonkolili District Noth- East Region 2020-2021.

Served as Mapping Officer Statistics Sierra Leone, I was charged with the responsibility to do mapping in the slated Area of work and collect relevant information about the house, delineation of the housing and population by using the satellite imagery with digital and also served as Supervisor during Census 2021 Midterm population and housing census.

 Duties as Public Information Officer, RAIC

1. Designing, developing and disseminating all outreach materials and activities to target audience and media, including outreach folders and fact sheets, newsletters, brochures, website, photo essays, video and audio components for broadcast, print media etc.

2. Design and present a strategy for implementing public education campaigns that increase awareness of the goals and achievements of the Commission.

3. Establish and maintain systems and processes for logging and recording requests for information received under the Right to Access Information Act.

4. Support public information officers in other public authorities in the processing of freedom of information requests whenever the need arises.

5. Liaise with the relevant public authorities to ensure the collection and collation of accurate reliable and up-to-date information /reports on their state of compliance with their obligations under the RAI Act.

6. Transcribe oral request from public authorities or by persons providing services for them or members of the public to writing for ease of references.

12. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Commission from time to time.

Mariama Shaw: Assistant Accountant-RAIC

Mariama Shaw is the Assistant Accountant, Right to Access Information Commission, Sierra Leone. Prior to taking up this position, she worked as the Finance and Operations Officer for Dallaco Company (2018-2020), Administrative Officer for Independent Youth Forum (2015-2017), Operations Officer for Zenith bank SL Ltd (2012-2014), and Finance Assistant for Evangelical Fellowship of Sierra Leone (2009-2012). She is an accomplished Finance and Operations specialist with over eight years of professional experience in the financial sector. She has the ability to process transactions at a very high speed with no errors. Because of her skills, she can produce productive and long-lasting results for high-level clients.

She works well with senior executives and can provide consultations to colleagues in handling financial transactions. More than her role as Assistant Accountant, she is also effective at persuading and influencing high-ranking individuals. Her opinions are highly valued, and people trust and respect her judgments. She earned a certificate in business finance, a diploma in financial services, and a degree in financial services in 2007, 2009, and 2011 respectively at the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), University of Sierra Leone. Through her studies, she developed a passionate interest in finance, operations, and administration.

At RAIC, she managed the finances of the commission while working with other government agencies and departments to coordinate the activities of the commission. For her most recent tenure as an Assistant Accountant, She had successfully nourished her insatiable passion. She did this by conducting market research and advising the commission on recent market developments. She wants to engage more with influential decision-makers and thought leaders in the financial sector. She's open to challenges, conversations, and an exchange of ideas from the players in the financial sector.

Her long-term goal is to become a financial advisor in the government of Sierra Leone. She wants to use her untiring commitment and drive to bring more dignity and autonomy to the financial sector within the government of Sierra Leone.  She had a lot of significant professional experiences as an Assistant Accountant. She created several tools to help her work become effective by evaluating operational requirements more accurately and improving the forecasting of finances.
