Millicent  Brima: Public Information Officer Raic.

 Millicent Brima (Mrs.) is a Sierra Leonean by Nationality. She is a graduate with Master of Arts in Descriptive and Applied Linguistics and Bachelor of Arts Linguistics (Education) both from Njala University. She is an educationist who has spent most of her working years as a teacher in the Centenary United Methodist Secondary School Bo.

She worked with the RAIC as volunteer from 2019 to 2021. She was recruited as permanent staff in 2022. In addition to her responsibilities as Public Information Officer, she also serves in other capacities such as Admin Assistance, IT Officer and other duties assigned by the Commissioner.

She also embarked on some contract works which are:

  • 2020: Recruited by Le Wi Lan/ Teaching Service Commission (TSC) Sierra Leone as facilitator for the popularization of the 2019 Teacher Code of Conduct in the country.
  • 2018-2022: Recruited by Le Wi Lan/ Teaching Service Commission as facilitator for the Teacher Professional Development (TPD) trainings for English and Mathematics teachers in Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS) in the country.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AS PIO IN RAIC

  • Designing, developing and disseminating all outreach materials and activities to target audience and media including outreach folders and fact sheets, newsletters, brochures, website, photo essays, video and audio components for broadcast, print media etc.
  • Design and present a strategy for implementing public education campaigns that increase awareness of the goals and achievements of the commission.
  • Establish and maintain systems and processes for logging and recording requests for information received under the Right to Access Information Act.
  • Support Public Information Officers in other public authorities in the processing of freedom of information requests whenever the need arises.
  • Liaise with relevant public authorities to ensure the collection and collation of accurate, reliable and up-to-date information/reports on their state of compliance with their obligations under the RAI Act.
  • Transcribe oral request from public authorities or by persons providing services for them or members of the public to writing for ease of references.
  • Provide assistance to the Compliance team in monitoring and evaluating progress on the status of response to FOI requests, proactive disclosure of information and records management.
  • Process freedom of information requests received by the commission from members of the public or other public authorities.
  • Support the Compliance team to examine and respond appropriately to applications/requests or enquiries from public authorities or by persons providing services for them or members of the public for information or retrieval of files, records and other documentation held in the commission.
  • Provide advice and guidance to clients organizations and members of the public regarding access to information request and the related legislation.
  • Work closely with the compliance team to compile and dispatch information request on behalf of client organizations and members of the public in accordance with the statutory timescales as provided for in the RAI Act.
