David Patrick Kamara - Public Information Officer

 

David Patrick Kamara is a versatile Sierra Leonean media and communications practitioner with over ten (10) years of experience in journalism practice, and public communications. David has worked with various radio/media development projects in Sierra Leone, including the National Broadcaster, The Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation with a strong passion about human and democratic rights and social justice.

Prior to him joining the Right to Access Information Commission in October 2017, he worked as a reporter, Presenter and News Anchor at the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation where he played an active role in radio and television programmes production by generating interesting ideas and developing them into interesting reports and programmes that cover politics, social and economic issues. His job also involved researching contents to inform the production of various radio and TV programmes. He was one of the lead and first anchors for the SLBC’s flagship breakfast news and current affairs programme, Morning Coffee, which focuses on key Human rights and Governance issues in the country.  

Between January 2012 and June 2014, he was Programmes Editor  for Cotton Tree New (CTN) a project designed to be a model for public service broadcasting in post-conflict Sierra Leone. Mr. Kamara’s  job as a radio journalist involved designing and producing radio programmes that focused on the project’s thematic areas--governance, accountability, elections and human rights, as well as everyday local issues such as access to services that affected people in deprived communities across the country. David also ensured the editorial and technical quality of all programmes especially during the 2012 elections, where he worked in the situation room of the Independent Radio Network—a coalition of community radio stations across the country. 

Mr. David Patrick Kamara during his University days did a six months internship programme with the Outreach and Public Affairs Section of the Special Court for Sierra Leone and was assigned to monitor the Charles Taylor trial from The Hague via video link and write summary scripts from the trial for a thirty minutes radio programme to be aired on different radio stations across the country. He was also tasked with editing audio clips from the trial in The Hague for use by the Section and media and participated in the court’s outreach programmes across the country.

Mr. David Patrick Kamara holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honors (BA, Hons.) in Mass Communications, from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone (2006-2010) and was winner of the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone SWASAL best male Sports Journalist (Electronics Media) in 2011 and was part of the crew that covered the month-long ALL AFRICAN GAMES in Congo Brazzaville in 2015 for the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation.
